Why adults choose treatment

Straight teeth are easier to clean, more comfortable to live with, and can help prevent more serious issues in the future.

You might benefit from orthodontic care if you’re dealing with:

  • Crowded or shifted teeth
  • Jaw discomfort or popping
  • Uneven bite causing tooth wear
  • Gaps or spacing affecting your smile or speech

Treating these concerns doesn’t just improve appearance: it supports healthier gums, reduces the risk of decay, and eases strain on your jaw joints.

Options for adults

At Carvalho & Roth Orthodontics, we offer a range of treatments that are effective, discreet, and well-suited to adult patients. No two smiles are the same, so we take time to recommend options that fit both your dental needs and your lifestyle.

Invisalign clear aligners

They’re nearly invisible, removable, and comfortable to wear throughout the day.

  • No brackets or wires
  • Easy to remove for eating and brushing
  • Fewer office visits needed

Clear (ceramic) braces

For patients who prefer a fixed option but want a more discreet look, clear braces are a great alternative to metal.

  • Brackets blend with the natural color of your teeth
  • Effective for moderate to more complex cases
  • Durable enough for daily wear

Metal braces

Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more efficient than in the past. They remain a trusted choice for cases that need detailed adjustments.

  • Reliable for complex alignment or bite issues
  • Optional colored bands for a subtle personal touch

During your first appointment, we’ll explain which option is likely to offer the best outcome for your goals.

Before treatment starts

Whether you’re a child, teenager, or an adult, your gums must be healthy before orthodontic treatment can start. If you’re an adult who wants to start treatment at Carvalho & Roth Orthodontics and you have any sign of gum disease, you’ll have to improve the health of your gums before you can start wearing braces or aligners.

When the jaws themselves are out of line, treatment may include orthognathic surgery, performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, or, for a narrow upper jaw, MARPE.

What adults gain

It’s never too late to make a change. At Carvalho & Roth Orthodontics, we see adults of all ages choosing to begin treatment. Some never had the chance to get braces earlier in life. Others had treatment years ago but noticed their teeth shifting over time.

Here’s what adult patients often gain from treatment:

  • Better oral hygiene: Straighter teeth are easier to brush and floss, reducing the risk of decay and gum disease
  • Improved bite function: A balanced bite can make chewing more comfortable and prevent jaw pain
  • Reduced wear and tear: Misalignment can lead to uneven pressure on teeth, which may cause chipping or erosion over time
  • Increased confidence: A smile that feels good often makes people feel more at ease in social or professional settings
  • Lower risk of future dental problems: Fixing alignment now can help avoid more serious dental work down the line
