Orthodontic Treatment For Teens

The teenage years are crucial for making sure that the teeth, jaws, and facial bones develop well, with proper guidance during this transformative time between childhood and adulthood. To establish good habits, correct the bite, and overcome orthodontic problems, teens receive treatments such as braces or palatal expanders. We offer a range of services to match your teen's unique orthodontic needs, and optimize the development of the teeth for a stronger, healthier, and more attractive smile.

Teenage orthodontic treatment prevents oral health complications in adulthood, which are more difficult and costly to treat once their jaw is fully developed.

What Is The Treatment Process Like For Teens?

Every teenager is unique, and their treatment process will be too. As a teen, we also tend to become more concerned with our appearance, so this is another factor to consider when beginning their orthodontic journey. That is why at Carvalho & Roth we work closely with our patients, consider and discuss every option and concern. We conduct an initial examination so we can assess what degree of treatment your child needs, then we create a personalized treatment plan for them and ensure that they’re getting the treatment that best fits their needs and preferences, while yielding the best results.

What Orthodontic Options Are There For Teens?

Traditional Metal Braces

They may be the classic solution for straightening teeth, but they're definitely not out-dated. Modern metal braces are an advanced piece of orthodontic technology and are still the most popular choice for guaranteed results. The brackets are smaller and lighter than ever, making them more comfortable and less noticeable. Colored elastic ties on the brackets let you personalize your braces. For an effective and affordable orthodontic treatment option, metal braces are a solution you can rely on.

Clear Braces

Clear braces are a different take on traditional metal braces. Instead of stainless steel, the brackets are ceramic or a composite material designed to blend in with the color of your teeth, making them less visible. Their cost is slightly higher, but it’s well worth it for those who want a more subtle orthodontic appliance.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Invisalign clear aligners are a series of plastic trays molded to perfectly fit your teeth. These trays use the same core concept of braces, applying small amounts of concentrated pressure to your teeth to move them into their new positioning. The clear plastic makes them practically invisible when worn, and they are removable for eating and drinking. Invisalign Teen trays come with compliance indicators, which are small dots that wear away when the trays are worn. Not all patients are eligible for Invisalign, so schedule an appointment with your orthodontist to see if it’s right for you.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are an advanced form of braces that place the brackets on the back of the teeth instead of the front, making them impossible to see when smiling. Lingual braces are aesthetically appealing, but they can be more costly, and take more time to adjust to.

Other Orthodontic Appliances

In some cases that require major tooth or jaw movement, other orthodontic appliances may be recommended. These appliances can range from small devices that fit inside the mouth to external headgear. It may take time for you to adjust to the appliance, but remember that it is only temporary.

How Long Will I Wear My Braces Or Invisalign?

Orthodontic treatment takes some time to ensure results. The amount of time depends on your individual case, since the severity of orthodontic issues varies. Generally, the active stage of orthodontic treatment lasts 6-30 months. Afterwards, you will wear a retainer for another period of months. When your orthodontic treatment is complete, the new smile we've worked together to create will be yours for a lifetime.
